While you may think quakes are a western US problem, some of the largest temblors in US history have happened in the East.
SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck western Nevada just after 5 a.m. local time, centered roughly 12 miles east-southeast of the community of Silver Springs, roughly 40 miles east of Carson City.
According to the USGS, the quake was felt as far as Reno.

There were no immediate reports of damage, but Lyon County officials asked people to inspect their homes for damage or gas leaks.
This is the latest in a series of earthquakes in western Nevada, including several that hit the region in late April and early May.
This region sits along a series of active faults along the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada, according to the USGS.
