Dolly Parton was laid to rest Friday in a small, private service, per the singer’s wishes. The ceremony was confirmed by her great-niece, Lainey Parton, who posted a remembrance on social media.

“This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words,” her great niece wrote. “Because she couldn’t have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers. She loved us that way, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”

She continued, “I feel incredibly lucky that I got to call her my granny. Thank you for always believing in me, loving me, and making me feel like I could do anything.”

She ended with, “I love you, Granny. Always.”

Parton, who died on August 25, was interred at Woodlawn Memorial Park. It’s one of the largest cemeteries in Nashville and the final resting place of country music royalty such as Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Eddy Arnold and Marty Robbins.

While Parton certainly belongs in that company, it was likely more important to her that she be close to husband of nearly 60 years Carl Dean, who was laid to rest there in 2025.

According to People, Dean was interred in a mausoleum at the cemetery. On it, a large plaque is mounted that also has Dolly’s name and their wedding date. She was likely laid to rest beside him, according to the publication.
