FINAL FORECAST ⚽️: The biggest stage in world sports is set. What will the weather have in store for the World Cup Final? FOX Weather Meteorologist Bayne Froney breaks down Sunday’s forecast as Argentina and Spain battle for the championship, including temperatures, sky conditions and improving air quality ahead of kickoff.

NEW JERSEY – One of the world’s biggest sporting events has reached its finale. After 39 days and 103 matches, only one match remains. As Argentina and Spain prepare to battle for the FIFA World Cup trophy, here’s what the forecast has in store.

The final comes to East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday. As millions of fans around the world turn their attention to New York New Jersey Stadium, the weather forecast is looking favorable for the match-up of two soccer titans: Argentina and Spain.

Located about 12 miles from New York City, the open-air, 80,000-seat venue is fully exposed to the elements, but on Sunday, that won’t have a major impact on the game.

CAN CONCERTS AND SPORTING EVENTS CAUSE EARTHQUAKES?

According to the FOX Forecast Center, weather is expected to cooperate for Sunday’s World Cup Final between Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Lamine Yamal’s Spain.

While things will inevitably get Messi during the World Cup Final, the weather isn’t expected to. The forecast calls for low-impact conditions, allowing the most anticipated match in sports to take center stage.

Clear skies and temperatures in the low 80s are expected from the 3 p.m. kickoff through the final whistle. After two halves, hydration breaks, a star-studded halftime show and perhaps a little stoppage-time drama, the 2026 FIFA World Cup champion should be crowned under sunny skies.

The biggest weather factor may be the breeze, with winds around 10 mph and occasional gusts up to 15 mph. While players could notice it on long balls and set pieces, the wind isn’t expected to have a major impact on the match.

Earlier this week, thick smoke from Canadian wildfires clouded the New York City skyline, reducing visibility and pushing air quality into unhealthy ranges at times. While some haze may still linger Sunday, Saturday’s cold front is expected to usher in cleaner air, with air quality improving significantly and posing little concern for players or fans at the World Cup Final.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. Tune in to FOX as Spain and Argentina battle for soccer’s biggest prize under a forecast that should let the action—not the weather—take center stage.
