President Donald Trump called the Supreme Court’s emergency order on mail-in voting “a great ruling for the Republican Party” on Thursday.

The court’s ruling earlier this week allows the Trump administration to proceed with an executive order that directs the U.S. Postal Service to determine which voters should receive mail-in ballots. The executive order also directs the Department of Homeland Security to build a database of U.S. citizens who are eligible voters.

PBS News White House correspondent Liz Landers asked the president about what the ruling means for states like North Carolina, where mail-in ballots are due to be sent out next week.
“North Carolina is great. It’s a great place. I won it all three times. They do some mail-in ballots, but basically they ruled on the legitimacy and the way we want to make them legitimate,” Trump said. “It was a great ruling for the Republican Party.”
Despite his criticism of – and false claims about – mail-in voting, Trump has cast votes by mail several times in Florida elections.
