WINTER COMEBACK 🧊❄️: FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender breaks down the latest updates for the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains this weekend as winter weather is expected to make a significant impact this holiday weekend. Stay tuned to FOX Weather for the latest:

The winter weather isn’t going down without a fight in parts of the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains as Americans experience a rough start to spring.

Over a foot of snow and significant icing is likely across portions of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest starting today and into this holiday weekend.

So far, locations such as Polonia, Wisconsin, have experienced half an inch of ice accumulation, threatening travelers in the region as Americans are on the move for the holiday weekend.

Locations such as North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota have already begun to experience moderate snowfall accumulations since Thursday evening.

Roscoe, South Dakota, has received 4.7 inches of snow so far.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, a second similar but stronger storm is expected by the start of the weekend. It could bring more widespread snow totals, with another 8 to 12 inches possible across the Dakotas and Northern Minnesota.

Colder air is expected to settle in place across Wisconsin and northern Michigan, allowing more wintry conditions to expand across both states.

“To put more context into the snow, Fargo only averages around 4.1 inches every April,” the FOX Forecast Center said. “The current forecast calls for right at 12 inches by Saturday.”
