President Donald Trump’s appearance has come under fire again, with his latest public outing setting off a fresh wave of scrutiny over a noticeable change that some viewers say was hard to ignore.
The 80-year-old president has spent decades cultivating an instantly recognizable image, but lately, even subtle shifts in his look have become a magnet for attention.
This time was no different, as photos from his latest trip quickly had people taking a closer look — and once they did, the comments started pouring in.
The source of the fascination appeared to be Trump’s signature blond hair, which suddenly looked considerably darker as he boarded Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews for a trip to Bedminster, New Jersey.
Instead of the familiar golden-blond shade he has sported for years, Trump’s hair looked closer to brunette and noticeably flatter, with less volume than in several recent appearances — adding yet another unexpected change to his increasingly scrutinized look.
Fans quickly chimed in.
“Oh my god. This is so embarrassing. He is an 80 yr old PawPaw trying to hide his gray,” one person wrote.
“He got a new wig?” another asked.
“Someone else appeared to prefer the darker look, joking, “Someone let him know the blonde makes him look bald.”
Then fans looked closer at Trump’s pants and waistline, with some trying to figure out exactly what they were seeing.
“The hair is indeed very bad. But what is that above the waste, sorry waist,” asked one critic.
One person responded that he looked to be wearing a “girddle.”
“What’s the hardware on his leg,” someone else asked.
But the brunette makeover was particularly striking considering what viewers had been looking at just days earlier.
Trump, who has long placed considerable attention on his public image, recently sat for an interview with GB News presenter Bev Turner. During the conversation, the president discussed immigration, crime, foreign policy, energy costs and other issues.
While the orange-tinged POTUS focused on global concerns, some people were more fixated on his hair loss.
“Trump looks like he has a bird’s nest on his head in this interview,” online commentator Aaron Rupar wrote on X, along with a clip of the president’s sit-down with the right-leaning network.
Other posters joined in on sharing their thoughts on how Trump looked during his conversation with Turner. The Republican standard-bearer became the target of ruthless mockery.
“Naw. Birds’ nests are meticulously crafted. That’s more like dryer lint after cleaning the filter,” one person replied.
Additionally, someone tweeted, “Imagine being the President, worth $10 billion, and not doing your hair before an interview. This is just sloppy.”
“He’s got to be doing his own face and hair, right? No professional is going to do his hair differently every day or make him various shades of orange day to day,” read a tweet.
Commenters also described Trump’s latest hairstyle as a “rat’s nest, “evil cotton candy,” and a “lollipop on a barbershop floor.”
“What the hell is on his head???” asked another confused individual. One account on the app wondered, “What happened [to] the wig?”
The summer of 2026 has seen the former reality television star debut short-lived hair makeovers. Each transformation broke the internet.
On Aug. 5, Trump popped out in Las Vegas with a fuller head of hair, igniting speculation that the grandfather of 11 embraced rocking a hairpiece.
That fresh hairdo at the Vegas speech fueled countless questions and jokes. The president’s thinner, disheveled hair returned days later following the intense scrutiny.
However, Trump then rolled out another fresh hair look at a back-to-school event held in the White House’s Rose Garden on Aug. 24. Viewers mercilessly clowned his “side part” addition.
The toupee accusations must have rattled Trump. At a separate Rose Garden dinner on Sept. 2, the oldest man ever to be inaugurated as president denied that his hair is fake.
“For years I had to suffer with people saying, ‘He wears a wig.’ I don’t wear a wig,” he told the group of Republican lawmakers and officials in attendance.
Trump directly disputing the wig rumors came years after his former physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, revealed in 2017 that the New York native took finasteride to promote hair growth.
Bornstein reportedly had been Trump’s doctor since 1980, before the MAGA frontman’s first presidential term began in 2017.
He also released an infamous 2015 letter suggesting that then-candidate Trump would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”
Two more doctors also confirmed Trump’s use of the drug commonly known by the brand name Propecia before and during his first four years in office, per The Independent.
According to a Washington Post report in June, Trump’s recent medical reports show that he no longer takes the prescription medication that treats male pattern baldness.
