The Odyssey has reached another box office milestone, as it’s the highest-grossing R-rated film ever when adjusted for inflation, surpassing 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Christopher Nolan-directed motion picture, which features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Travis Scott, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal and Robert Pattinson, has made more than $1.352 billion worldwide.
The total surpasses the $1.338 billion brought in two years ago by Deadpool & Wolverine, whose star Ryan Reynolds acknowledged the milestone with a post on X featuring clips of both films.
‘Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time,’ Reynolds said.
The only other R-rated film to make more than $1 billion previously was 2019’s Joker.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Nolan for further comment on the story.

The critically-acclaimed film was initially released July 17, taking in more than $123 million in its opening weekend in domestic box office.
In just more than a month since, the film, which runs two hours and 52 minutes, has racked up another $516 million in domestic box office and $835 million in international.
It also marks the highest-ever earning film from Nolan, whose past personal best was the The Dark Knight Rises’ $1.08 billion (unadjusted for inflation) in 2012.
The filmmaker has also presided over box office smashes including The Dark Knight in 2008 with $1 billion worldwide box office, and 2023’s Oppenheimer, with $975 million.
The visually-enthralling motion picture has also made $354 million off Imax screenings, a record in that medium after overtaking the $271 million revenue of the 2009 James Cameron blockbuster Avatar (unadjusted for inflation).
A portion in excess of $40 million of that total comes from 41 movie theaters displaying the movie on Imax 70mm, as screenings in the premium platform remain sold out through next month, according to The Wrap.
The movie is the first-ever to be exclusively shot with Imax cameras.
The motion picture is also projected to surpass the $1.6 billion total after it recently arrived in theaters in China and South Korea, with a Japanese release slated for next month, the outlet noted.

Another financial feat ahead, should it take in more than $1.67 billion, would be the highest-grossing movie for Universal Pictures over the worldwide total for Jurassic World, which took in $1,671,537,444 in 2015, not accounting for inflation.
In all, The Odyssey is the year’s second highest-grossing motion picture, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken in $2.04 billion on a global basis since its July 29 release.
The Sony-Marvel film, which also features Holland, Zendaya and Bernthal, achieved another feat this week, as it’s the fastest film to surpass $800 million in domestic box office revenues, Deadline reported.
In total, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made $810,432,089 in domestic revenue and $1.236 billion in international box office.
