The end of the workweek is forecast to be stormy, bringing a flash flood threat on Thursday and Friday and thunderstorms into the weekend. Get the latest forecast:

THE TAKEAWAY

  • Storms return to the East Coast by the end of the week.
  • A flash flood threat targets at least six states.
  • An area of low pressure could push rainfall along the I-95 corridor this weekend.

The east is getting a few days to dry out through midweek this week, but that won’t last long as storms return toward the end of the workweek and bring an increasing flash flood threat to at least six states through the weekend.

By Thursday, a cold front will move into the east from the Ohio Valley with an area of low pressure trailing behind it.

From Thursday into Friday, the cold front will start stalling from the Northeast coast down south into the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas, the FOX Forecast Center said.

The stalled cold front is expected to allow storms to develop over the same areas in Virginia, North Carolina and into coastal Maryland, and rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour could be possible.

A Level 1 out of 4 flash flood risk is currently in place Thursday and Friday across these areas, including Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, North Carolina.

As we move into the weekend, the area of low pressure could develop, potentially pushing rainfall north into the Interstate 95 corridor, but nothing is guaranteed just yet, the FOX Forecast Center said.
