EXCLUSIVE: Sonia Mena (Tell Me Lies) is set for a starring role opposite Mythic Quest‘s Chase Yi in the new Paranormal Activity movie from Undertone helmer Ian Tuason, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount.
No word on the role Mena will play. Plot details for the next installment in the hit found-footage franchise also remain under wraps. Slated for release on May 21, 2027, the film will be financed and produced jointly by Paramount and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Paramount handling its worldwide release.
Franchise originator Oren Peli is set to produce for Solana Films, with James Wan and Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Michael Clear and Judson Scott will exec produce for Blumhouse Atomic, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing the project for the company. Other exec producers on the project include Steven Schneider for Room 101, Inc., Dan Slater and Cody Calahan.
Peli’s original Paranormal Activity, released in 2009, was a minimalist found-footage flick following a young couple who set up cameras in their home to capture a supernatural presence haunting them at night. The film broke out as a cultural phenomenon, becoming one of the most profitable in cinema history with a minimal budget and a worldwide gross of around $194 million. It’s also credited with reigniting interest in the found footage subgenre post-Blair Witch Project.
An actor and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, Mena recently starred alongside Grace Van Patten in the Hulu drama Tell Me Lies, adapted from Carola Lovering’s bestselling novel. They led the hit Off-Broadway comedy Puffs in a 15-month run and also have been seen on HBO’s The Deuce, with additional TV credits including Invasion, Search Party, Alternatino, Mrs. Fletcher, Half Empty and Love, Victor.
Mena is repped by Gersh, TFC Management, and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
