EXCLUSIVE: German TV market Seriencamp is taking on artificial intelligence this year in a big way.

The Cologne-based confab is launching a Plot Next strand that will explore the “intersection between storytelling and technology.”

More will be unveiled in due course but names so far unveiled include showrunner Pandora de Cunha Telles, who will present the use of generative AI in the production of upcoming Portuguese Netflix series The Marquise. Together with Finnish VFX specialist Max Barkman, she will discuss how developments are reshaping workflows and hierarchies in production. Also on the creative side, producer Jan Diepers (Studio Hamburg Serienwerft) will show what AI-supported work looks like in the writers’ room of German telenovela Rote Rosen.

Elsewhere, UFA Fiction producer Guido Reinhardt will discuss how tech is influencing planning at broadcasters and indies, while Tektite’s Max Penk will speak about AI applications in marketing and advertising.

The total number of international Plot Next speakers will hit 30 including from the BBC, CoSTAR and BetaSeries.

“While generative AI continues to provoke strong reactions across the creative industries, the reality is one of growing integration into existing workflows and production pipelines – with far-reaching implications for creative processes and business models,” said Plot Next head Gerhard Maier. “Bringing together different perspectives, encouraging open discourse, and grounding the debate in concrete use cases and real-world practice lies at the heart of the first edition of Plot Next.”

Plot Next will run alongside the Seriencamp conference and festival from 9-11 June. Seriencamp is the biggest TV event in Germany, with the major broadcasters, streamers, producers and creatives all in town. Deadline presents its German TV Disruptor Award at the event, and details of this year’s recipient will be revealed soon.
