There are at least 596 operating and planned data centers across Texas, with more emerging every month, according to Texas Tribune research.
To get this number, we analyzed data from Data Center Map and Cleanview, which both compile and sell data on data centers. The data was supplemented with other data centers identified through our reporting, as well as facilities uncovered and submitted by our readers. We’ve found 14 additional data centers since our initial reporting in June.
Location information was combined with Census data to determine the types of areas where data centers are being built and give readers a clearer picture of what’s happening in their communities.
You can see if you are living near an existing or planned data center by entering your address below. This list is not comprehensive, in part because some data centers aren’t being reported on and new ones are popping up rapidly. Because we rely on multiple data sources, our list may contain duplicates.
According to ERCOT, the state’s power grid operator, nearly 2,000 projects are waiting to be connected to the grid, and roughly 90% of those are data centers. However, some of those are speculative data center projects. Still, this is a strong indication that our count is an undercount.

While data centers are popping up across Texas, basic information can still be difficult to find. This includes where they’ll be located and how much power and water they’ll use.
We built another lookup tool to help readers find local and state officials who may have a role in regulating data centers near them. Enter your address to find out who manages water in your area and where to check if you’d like to find out more about your city council and county commissioners.
We also include your state lawmakers, who will likely consider proposals to regulate data centers during the next legislative session.

The more specific you can be about the location of a data center, the better. The latitude and longitude would be ideal. But if that’s not available, please be as descriptive as you can.
