SUMMER STORMS: FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender breaks down the upcoming storm threat headed for the East Coast, as a wave of summer storms is expected to dampen plans outdoors this weekend.
Summer weekend plans are once again at risk for millions of people across the Southeast, as wet weather is expected to dampen the chances for time outdoors.
As a weak area of disturbed weather moves towards the region, tropical moisture will begin to surge into Florida to kick off the weekend.
The chance of widespread thunderstorms producing wind gusts of 40-50 mph is expected to help fuel a larger threat in the coming days.
On Friday afternoon, a large chunk of moisture will hover just off the East Coast of Florida and the Carolinas, where showers and thunderstorms will be more active until Saturday afternoon.

“Daily afternoon sea breeze collisions are typical across the Sunshine State during the summer months, but the added moisture will support more widespread thunderstorm coverage,” said the FOX Forecast Center. “Cities like Orlando and Tampa, as well as Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, will all be in the bullseye for tropical downpours by Saturday.”
As the wet weather continues through the weekend, forecasters expect 1-2 inches of rainfall across central Florida, coastal Georgia, and South Carolina, with some areas possibly seeing 2-3 inches later in the day.
As a result, a level 1/4 Flash Flood Risk is in place to start the weekend.

While heavy and persistent rainfall is expected for the coming days, the odds of tropical development remain very low.
