EXCLUSIVE: Pink Parrot Media has boarded the 3D animated feature Winner from Paratha Entertainment in collaboration with the Rafa Nadal Foundation.

The English-language film is said to follow a “young girl and her journey to rise above her circumstances and become one of the best tennis players in history.”  PPM is handling worldwide sales excluding Spain and India. The company will launch the film at the upcoming Cannes Market.

The official synopsis reads: Uma is 12, quick, smart, and cautious. She lives with her aunt Kiara, a “meditation guru” more into social media than caring for her niece. To get by, Uma sells her irresistible pancakes at the market. One day, when a group of rich kids led by arrogant Ravi tries to drive her away, Uma fights back – her frying-pan aim leaves everyone stunned. Naya, director of a school for underprivileged kids, spots her talent. What Uma doesn’t know is that Ravi is the nation’s top junior tennis player – and his father, Mr. Gupta, plans to close Naya’s school to build an elite club. With help from Simon, a former tennis player facing his own demons, and her new friends, Uma trains to face Ravi in the national tournament.

The story is said to draw inspiration from the Nadal Educational Tennis School in southern India. The animation for the project is being developed across Spain and India in collaboration with the Grangel Studios (Corpse Bride), La Tribu Animation (Wish Dragon), Amuse Animation (Car City), and Digitoonz (Smurfs, Ozi: Voice of the Forest).

Screenwriter and director Jaime Maestro (Animal Crackers) is developing the project alongside Bartolomé Blaya, CEO of Paratha Entertainment, and in collaboration with the Rafa Nadal Foundation. B. Blaya is composing the film’s soundtrack to be performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Maria Bonaria Fois from Digitoonz Spain is the Executive Producer, alongside Tania Pinto Da Cunha and Marie Claude Beauchamp from Pink Parrot Media.
