A petition seeking to ban New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from this year’s 9/11 anniversary events has received support from a voice in Hollywood.
Actress Patricia Heaton has backed a petition calling to bar Mamdani, 34, from attending 9/11 remembrance events due to ‘his public positions, associations, and responses to rhetoric that many perceive as hostile’ to the ‘American values’ grounding the anniversary.
Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terror attacks that struck the United States on September 11, 2001.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
‘Keep it going New Yorkers,’ the Everybody Loves Raymond actress, 68, tweeted on Sunday, along with a screenshot of the Change.org petition.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Heaton and Mamdani for comment.

Created by a 9/11 widower, the petition cites several different reasons for banning Mamdani.
Among them is Mamdani’s ‘perceived reluctance to clearly and unequivocally condemn phrases such as “globalize the intifada,” which many interpret as endorsing or normalizing violence.’ (The phrase is seen by many Jewish people as a call to violence.)
They also cite Mamdani’s ‘support for, or associations with, individuals whose public statements or records are viewed by concerned family members as dismissive of American institutions or insufficiently critical of extremist ideologies.’
As of this writing, the petition has garnered 42,810 signatures.
Mamdani stated his intention to attend the 9/11 commemoration event as he addressed the pushback against his presence with CBS News.
‘I will proudly honor the families, the survivors, the first responders forever impacted by that horrific terror attack by standing alongside them at this year’s 9/11 commemoration, reaffirming that we will never forget the solemn day felt by all of us who call this city home and, frankly, by all of us who called this country home,’ he told the outlet.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum also told CBS News in part: ‘We have intentionally worked to keep the commemoration free of politics. Government officials from across the political spectrum have attended the ceremony simply to bear witness.’
The museum further added that politicians are placed in a designated area during the event and do not make remarks.
Heaton’s public support of the petition divided followers.

‘Signed,’ one wrote.
‘Mamdani was 9 years old when 9/11 happened,’ another pointed out.
A Heaton supporter wrote: ‘Agree. Mamdani is not welcome at such a sacred and somber memorial. Families should have a say.’
In the comments section of an Instagram post discussing wellness and her alcohol-free wine range, one wrote: ‘Wellness. What do you know about it? Mayor Mamdami (sic) is 1000000x a better human than you will ever be.’
A known prominent conservative voice in Hollywood, Heaton has been outspoken in her support of Republican policies, pro-life views, pride for her Christian faith, and optimism for Donald Trump’s administration.
‘I want everybody to feel that America is on the right track, feel proud of America and grateful,’ she told Fox News following Trump’s inauguration last year.
In April, following a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Heaton also urged her ‘friends on the left’ to pull back on the extreme rhetoric.
‘I wasn’t happy when Clinton, Obama or Biden won, but I didn’t call them fascist/dangerous/threat to democracy. I didn’t hope someone would assassinate them,’ she tweeted.
‘I went on with my life with gratitude. Friends on the left, please try this. Your life and our country will be better.’
