While you may think quakes are a western US problem, some of the largest temblors in US history have happened in the East.
The Pacific Ring of Fire region was rattled by two earthquakes on Friday. A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the Aleutian chain, about 93 miles west-southwest of Adak, Alaska, just after 2:45 a.m. Alaska time, according to USGS.
The quake’s epicenter was roughly 25 miles below the surface.

About an hour later, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck in Southeast Asia’s Banda Sea, about 157 miles east-northeast of Lospalos in Timor-Leste, a Southeast Asian nation that shares the island of Timor with Indonesia, north of Australia.
No Tsunami Warning was issued for either quake.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is a 25,000-mile belt of volcanoes and earthquake zones surrounding much of the Pacific Ocean, where 90% of the world’s earthquakes occur.
