Ocean Way Festival Canceled In Santa Monica Due To Beach Erosion & “Can No Longer Be Safely Held As Planned”

Ocean Way Festival has been canceled because of beach erosion caused by Hurricane Marie.

The two-day festival was scheduled for Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, with headliners The Killers and Olivia Dean, along with artists like Jack White, Sublime, Alvvays, Khruangbin, Durand Jones & The Indications, and Hiatus Kaiyote.

“Due to the impacts of Hurricane Marie, the City of Santa Monica has canceled the inaugural Ocean Way Festival,” event organizers said in a statement on Friday, September 11. “Storm surf and runoff has caused significant beach erosion and the festival can no longer be safely held as planned.”

The statement also noted that “plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027,” adding, “Refunds are being processed automatically, and no further action is required on your part. Please allow a few business days for the refund to appear in your account. Thank you for your support. See you soon.”

Other artists scheduled to appear included SG Lewis, 54 Ultra, Hot Chip DJs, DJ Harvey, Austin Millz, Vandelux, Heidi Lawden, Blond:ish, Poolside, Carlita, Good Neighbours, Coco & Breezy, Nala, and Erez.

Ocean Way Festival is not the first L.A.-area festival canceled this year. In August, the inaugural LA Jazz Festival was canceled and postponed until 2027, citing “last-minute public safety and municipal costs associated with the final permitting” of the event, according to a statement NBC4 shared.

The jazz festival included “Jazz on the Beach” concerts at Dockweiler Beach and featured musical performances by John Legend, Janelle Monáe, Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton, Charlie Wilson, Raphael Saadiq, Original Koffee, Terrace Martin, Poncho Sanchez, among others.
