The Oasis ‘Live in 25’ reunion tour grossed each of the Gallagher brothers around £100million, and is set to be followed by another tour next year.
But, until today, the inside story of how and when the warring pair made their peace has never been told.
A feature documentary, Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday night with Noel Gallagher describing Liam as ‘delightful’ and saying that, although Liam has never apologised to him, they have managed to rebuild their relationship.
And the pair put on a brotherly display at the red carpet premiere as they posed with their arms around each other.
Noel, 59, said that he was taken aback by his own emotional response to his reconciliation with Liam, and had to turn his back on the audience for much of the 41-date tour to hide his tears.
He said: ‘All the little things that used to annoy us about each other have gone away. We have come out of it now as equals.

‘Here is a word which I never would have thought I would say about him: delightful.’
He added: ‘We get along now, we text like normal people. The music brought us together.’
Despite the apparent outbreak of peace, the Gallagher brothers opted not to submit to a press conference where they could be asked questions about their relationship.
The film’s co-director Will Lovelace said: ‘They seem to be getting on pretty well.’
In the documentary, where they are both interviewed, Liam notes that the make up was effected: ‘Without saying a word’.
He never apologised to his brother, despite their infamous rows in Oasis before the 2009 break up, and the sniping in the years which followed, including slurs against Noel’s daughter Anais and his now ex-wife Sara.
Indeed, Sara is not even mentioned, despite the fact that it is widely accepted that their divorce paved the way for the truce, with Liam having called her ‘Yoko Ono’, who was famously blamed for the break-up of The Beatles – and worse.
Liam clearly doesn’t want to discuss or say sorry for what happened. He says: ‘Leave it out mate, we had a little argument, you know what I mean.’
He later adds: ‘I didn’t mean it to be the way that it was.’

The filmmakers admitted that the Gallaghers were not really on speaking terms when filming began during rehearsals for the tour.
They travelled separately and the tour promoters unusually only paid them once they had completed all 41 dates because they had such a history of conflict.
Because they weren’t on speaking terms they were initially interviewed separately, with Noel saying that he simply couldn’t envisage sharing a stage with Liam again.
At their first meeting, in a rehearsal room before the tour, neither is able to look the other in the eye.
Liam enters the room, asking why the drums have a baffle on them and says: ‘Shall we start?’
He leaves at the end of the day, the moment his vocal performance is over, leaving the rest of the band to finish the track as the door swings behind him.
Noel later says to his bandmates: ‘He comes in a bad mood. He leaves in a bad mood. He just comes in and then f***s off.’
Creator-writer-producer Steven Knight said: ‘We didn’t really know how it was going to go when we started. These are British working-class men, they are not going to hug and kiss each other.
‘It wasn’t until they were into the tour that they were in a place where they were able to sit down with each other.’

Liam refused to do a run-through on the eve of their first concert, in Cardiff last year, and showed up for the event with just 20 minutes to go.
Noel is seen nervously pacing the loading bay waiting for him. When Liam arrives, ‘He asks: “What’s the catering like?”,’ says Noel, and he adds that he is astonished when Liam grabs his hand so that they arrive on the stage hand in hand.
Liam, never one for too much introspection, says: ‘You just have to put on your big boy pants and get on with it. Do it well and move people.’
As the tour goes on, their children meet each other for the first time in many years and relations thaw.
Noel has two teenage sons, Sonny and Donovan, with his ex-wife Sara, and Anais with first wife Meg Mathews.
Liam has Lennon with his first wife, actress Patsy Kensit; Gene from his marriage to All Saints’ Nicole Appleton, and Molly from a brief relationship with singer-songwriter Lisa Moorish in the late 1990s, who all went on tour. He also has love child Gemma who lives in New York.
Noel says: ‘My kids met his kids. They didn’t know each other they have never met they are all best friends now.’
Liam adds: ‘They are loving it – f***ing spangled every night.’
Initially, Noel believes that, even though they have agreed to the tour they will not make up.
He says: ‘I was born with one fatal flaw in my character: I will not forgive people. That is something I was born with. I haven’t got any forgiveness in me at all.’
Of his brother he says: ‘He’s a man who truly does not give a f***. He is who he is and that’s the way of that. He’s not going to change. He’s not going to come to us, we have to go to him.’
Later in the documentary they are interviewed together with Noel laughing at Liam’s jokes and saying: ‘I forgot how funny he was.’
Director Will Lovelace said: ‘There was definite tension and, from our perspective as observers, that didn’t dissipate until that first moment when the expectant energy of the crowds met the nervousness of the band.
‘That was a real moment of alchemy. It was like something incredibly special happens when these people who’ve been waiting 16 years for this momentous thing to happen got it.’
Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger will launch in Imax screens and in cinemas on September 9, and the directors say that they hope that the fans who couldn’t get – or afford – tickets to the gigs will finally get as close as possible to the experience of having been there.
They added that they counted up the number of f-bombs which were included in the edit from the potty-mouthed brothers: 179.
