Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings’ cause of death has been confirmed less than a month after her shock passing.
The 46-year-old actress suffered an asthma attack on August 7 which left her with brain damage.
Knowings was placed on life support at a Los Angeles hospital per TMZ, with family later deciding to take her off it. The star passed away the following Tuesday evening.
In a death certificate obtained by People on September 2, it was revealed that Knowings died from cardiac arrest.
Asthma was listed as an underlying condition while acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus were the conditions that led to her death, according to the document.
Knowings famously appeared on Nickelodeon’s All That for three seasons from 1997-2000.

She played several memorable characters, including Penny Lane and Jessica on the recurring Whateverrr!!! sketch with former child star Amanda Bynes.
Knowings also appeared in three episodes of Sesame Street alongside her twin brother, Chris Knowings.
Her representative told The Daily Mail in a statement: ‘Christy was a multi talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.’
In the wake of her death, her former co-star Kenan Thompson, 48, paid an emotional tribute on Instagram, writing: ‘Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!!

In a 2019 interview with Bustle, Knowings reflected on her time on the show as a teen, saying: ‘My favorite moment on set was when I started to do this character in Season 6 named Gloria Bankhead. She was an over-the-top Martha Stewart .
‘I had never played any character like her! I just remember being on set and being her all-day long. Everybody loved it!
‘The writers, the stage managers, everybody was just like, “Hi Gloria!” Gloria Bankhead was my favorite character to play.

Knowings’ death came seven months after the passing of her All That co-star Kianna Underwood, 33, in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn in January.
The former child star got her big break on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series.
She appeared in All That for seven episodes in 2004 and 2005, according to her IMDb page.
The show produced several stars, including longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson and Bynes.
Underwood replaced Jamie Lynn Spears on the sketch comedy series for its tenth and last season.
She also appeared in the film The 24 Hour Woman, starring Patti LuPone, and voiced a character in the animated movie Santa Baby!.
The young actress also dabbled in stage production, touring with the musical Hairspray.
Underwood didn’t continue acting as an adult and seemed to be living in New York City at the time of her death.
