‘Moonlight’ Getting 10th Anniversary 4K Re-Release This Fall

EXCLUSIVE: The 2017 surprise Best Picture Oscar winner, Moonlight, is getting a tenth anniversary re-release from A24 on Oct. 2 in a new 4K remastered cut.

The news was just announced by the film’s director, co-writer, Barry Jenkins, at a special Telluride Film Festival screening of the pic.

Moonlight follows a young African-American man who grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are producers on the feature.

The-release will include an exclusive conversation with Jenkins, the movie’s Oscar Nominated composer Nicholas Britell and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.

Moonlight premiered in 2016 and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Best Supporting Actor (Ali) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney).

At the 2017 Oscars, in a mix-up of envelopes by a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) accountant, the night’s final co-presenter Faye Dunaway read that La La Land was the Best Picture winner. The accountant mistakenly handed Dunaway and her co-presenter and former Bonnie & Clyde co-star, Warren Beatty, the back-up envelope for actress in a leading role (which was won by La La Land‘s Emma Stone). La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz, upon taking the stage, realized that La La Land hadn’t won Best Picture, rather Moonlight, and announced the correction to the world.

Tickets go on sale on Sept. 9 for the re-release of Moonlight with a limited edition anniversary art print also available.

Moonlight grossed $27.8M at the domestic box office and close to $67M worldwide.
