As Milly Alcock gets her solo DCU debut, the Supergirl star is flying solo with her portrayal of Kara Zor-El.

The actress recently explained why she didn’t seek advice from peers who previously portrayed the Girl of Steel, including Supergirl (2015-’21) star Melissa Benoist and The Flash (2023) actress Sasha Calle.

“They’re just people living their lives,” explained Alcock to Vanity Fair. “It’s not like we have this blood bond.”

Following her starring role alongside Julianne Moore in last year’s Sirens on Netflix, Alcock noted that she didn’t bother the Oscar winner with questions either. “You have to respect that they don’t owe you that,” she said.

Meanwhile, joining the Game of Thrones franchise as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon has prepared her for taking on the DCU fandom.

“It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” said Alcock. “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

Premiering June 26 in theaters and Imax, Warner Bros. and DC released the latest trailer for Supergirl this week, featuring a new look at Jason Momoa’s antihero Lobo.
