SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay Area at 8:30 a.m. local time Thursday. The quake’s epicenter was just 3.2 miles below the surface about 2.5 miles south of San Leandro, California, according to the USGS.
No damage has been reported, but shaking was felt in Okaland and San Francisco.

The quake struck near the Hayward Fault, which runs from San Pablo Bay in the north to Fremont in the south.
The Bay Area is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 25,000-mile belt of volcanoes and earthquake zones surrounding much of the Pacific Ocean, where 90% of the world’s earthquakes occur.
