The search is tied to the ongoing investigation into a man recently charged in connection with 1980s “Texas Killing Fields” cases.
BACLIFF, Texas — Several streets in Bacliff are closed to traffic as one particular property is thoroughly searched above and below ground.
“I’m here to announce this morning is a follow-up to the arrest of James Dolphs Elmore two to three weeks ago,” said Galveston County District Attorney Kenneth Cusick.
Neighbors told us they heard possible flash bangs before law enforcement descended on the neighborhood where they’re searching for potential evidence, including up to two bodies supposedly buried by Elmore’s now deceased co-conspirator, Clyde Hedrick, along with rubble from a burned house.
“I think we may have just an idea on maybe one of the girls, which we’re not going to say her name just yet,” said Tim Miller, founder of Texas Equusearch and father of one of Elmore’s alleged victims, Laura Miller.
Much of the case against Elmore is based on conversations he had with Miller, including how he allegedly helped Hedrick prepare a lethal dose of cocaine that was used to kill Laura back in 1984.
“And I said, ‘What did he do next?'” said Miller. “And he said he put this western shirt over her, and that’s the shirt that was found beside Laura’s body.” “And I said, “Why did he do that?” “And he said, “he told me he didn’t want the dead girl looking back at him.”
Miller doesn’t plan on returning to Elmore’s property himself, but is hopeful this all helps other families find possible justice.
“Anyhow, we’ll see what comes up out there,” said Miller. “Been long overdue.”
The DA’s Office told us the search will continue on Friday and possibly into Saturday.
