FOX Weather Meteorologist Bayne Froney shares an update on the unbearable heat in New York City, as wildfire smoke from Canada invades the Big Apple.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The ferocious summer heat returned to parts of the Northeast on Wednesday, adding more drama to the lingering wildfire smoke from Canada.

Another stretch of unbearable weather is back across the Northeast U.S. through Friday as a heat dome is driving the air temperatures into the mid-to-upper 90s, with some dew points pushing heat indices well over 100 degrees.

Popular locations such as New York City are under a Heat Advisory through the evening, as New Yorkers bake in the sun.

WHAT IS A HEAT DOME AND HOW CAN IT AFFECT YOU DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS?

As the scorching temperatures show no signs of lowering until the weekend, the Big Apple will look and feel otherworldly as wildfire smoke and sweltering heat plague the city.

A searing heat dome will push electricity demand across the eastern US toward record levels over the July 4 holiday, testing power grids as air conditioners run full tilt on a busy World Cup weekend.

As we look ahead to rising temperatures in New York City, what could the lowest temperatures be during the heat wave?

Prediction markets at Kalshi are expecting a 94% chance that temperatures drop as low as 77 to 78 degrees at some point Wednesday in New York City.

This comes as evening rain and thunderstorms are expected by 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

This is a pleasant boost of confidence, with temperatures reaching 99 degrees and a heat index of 104.
