STORM THREAT: Repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Southeast and Mid-South regions starting Tuesday, as these storms have initiated a Flash Flood threat.

Residents across the Mid-South and Southeast are bracing for a soggy week as repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms threaten little relief between downpours.

Forecasters are monitoring a prolonged stretch of nasty weather settling across the southern U.S. starting Tuesday, bringing repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms through the end of the week.

FIRST TASTE OF FALL ON THE WAY AS COOLER AIR TARGETS THE EASTERN US

This comes as locations such as Birmingham, Alabama and southeastern portions of the state are already under a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms through the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

After a long period of humidity and warm weather, an upper-level flow pattern from the Northwest will take hold, setting up an expansive heat ridge to the West and a trough (an area of relatively low pressure) anchored over the East Coast.

RELENTLESS DOWNPOURS, WATERSPOUTS TARGET THE EAST AS SEVERE STORMS COOL OFF PARTS OF THE GULF COAST

This will fuel a severe weather threat to enter the Mid-South and Tennessee Valley regions.

“Rich Gulf moisture surging back into the region will provide plenty of fuel, turning storms into efficient rainmakers,” the FOX Forecast Center said.

Because of the severe weather and repeated heavy rain, a level 1/4 flash flood threat will begin Tuesday and continue through Thursday.

Rain totals will average around 1 to 2 inches, with some higher elevated locations seeing 2 to 3 inches, the FOX Forecast Center said.
