Authorities are investigating after a man and woman were found dead with gunshot wounds at a north Harris County apartment complex this morning.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man is in custody following a double shooting at an apartment in the Spring area Sunday morning that left a man and woman dead, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables’ Office were called to an apartment on FM 2920 west of Holzwarth Road around 5:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the victims as Estelle Camarillo, 34, and Junior Ruiz, 22.
Investigators identified the suspect as Adrian Abreu, 32, who was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Authorities say Abreu was reportedly in a dating relationship with Camarillo and may have been acquainted with Ruiz. Officials added that all three individuals knew each other.
According to investigators, the incident began when Camarillo called a friend, saying a man was outside her door and she was afraid due to prior abuse. That friend reportedly came to the apartment and shot Ruiz. Camarillo was also shot during the incident, though investigators say it remains unclear exactly how she was struck or what role she may have played.
Abreu has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Estelle Camarillo and felon in possession of a weapon. The death of Junior Ruiz will be presented to a grand jury, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
