Elton John has reunited with Taron Egerton as he praised his husband for the ‘brilliant birthday surprise’ on his 79th birthday.
The legendary singer marked the occasion while catching up with the Rocket Man actor over lunch. They have remained close friends ever since the 2019 biopic.
Posting on social media on Wednesday, Elton shared the snap with Taron, 36, as they smiled for the camera.
He then paid tribute to his husband David Furnish, writing: ‘Rocket Man squared. A brilliant birthday surprise having join us for lunch.
‘Thank you @davidfurnish for making today and every day feel special, and to all of you for the love, messages and support.’
Fans of Elton and the Rocket Man star flooded him with replies as they wished him a Happy Birthday, with one writing: ‘Truly the greatest. Thank you for being the beautiful soundtrack of my entire life’;

Last year the Daily Mail revealed Taron was back on the market and looking for love after being spotted on celebrity dating app Raya.
He had previously dated actress Chloe Bennett for several months and they enjoyed dates in both the UK and US.
At the time, the Welsh actor’s profile said that he was visiting London but resides in LA, and he tagged the track Lou’s Tune by DARGZ.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Elton’s husband David gave a fresh update on the singer, who contracted a severe eye infection in 2024 that left him blind in his right eye and with ‘limited’ vision in his left.
Speaking to Variety, David said Elton has been doing well lately and is focusing on spending time at home with the couple’s sons Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13.
‘He’s great. He’s battling on. He’s keeping busy and moving forward. He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons. That’s why he came off the road,’ David said.
‘We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together, and that’s everything for us.’
The update followed Elton sharing in November 2025 how the previous year had been ‘challenging’ for him.
Speaking to the same publication, he said: ‘It’s been devastating. Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything.
‘I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine. It’s exactly like the AIDS situation.
‘You mustn’t give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things.’
David recently gave an update on him after he contracted a severe eye infection that left him blind in his right eye and with limited vision in his left (pictured in January)
Elton performed his final ever shows in 2024.
He previously shared how there ‘wasn’t much of me left’ as he revealed he does not have tonsils, adenoids, an appendix or prostate.
‘I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip,’ he said.
‘But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.’
