Courteney Cox has paid memorial to her late Scream costar Hayden Panettiere, less than a month after the star’s death at 36.
The 62-year-old Friends star spoke fondly about the late actress, who died August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina in what authorities said was suspected as a drug ‘overdose.’
Cox, chatting with Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, called the late star ‘a really wonderful actor.’
Cox, who has played the role of Gale Weathers in the Scream franchise, was joined by Panettiere in two of the films in the series: 2011’s Scream 4 and 2023’s Scream VI.
‘The last time I worked with her we had a great time,’ Cox said of Panettiere, who played Kirby Reed in the films.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Cox for further comment on the story.

Cox described Panettiere as ‘really fun and happy and smart,’ while reflecting on the tragic nature of her premature passing.
‘It’s really sad,’ said Cox. ‘It’s obviously horrible.’
Panettiere last year told the outlet that she was honored working with legendary late filmmaker Wes Craven on Scream 4, calling him ‘amazing.’
She added, ‘I love the fact that I got to work with Wes Craven … I’m so sad that he left us far before his time.
‘But he had an incredible impact on my life and on me as an actor, which I now utilize when I go into other projects.’
Panettiere opened up on the knowledge she gained working with Craven, who died at the age of 76 in August of 2015.
She said he explained to her lessons on timing while making the film.
‘He would be like, “This is going to feel very slow. It’s gonna feel like you’re moving in slow motion, but when you put the music in and you edit it together, you have to build up that anticipation and you have to hit it right on the nail on the head,”‘ Panettiere said.

Panettiere said that Craven advised her to ‘be right on the nose,’ adding that ‘he was so right’ in hindsight.
The sentiments from Cox came after Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson made headlines after he and his brother Zach had been involved in a skirmish at a Greenville, South Carolina restaurant Saturday.
In the incident, eyewitnesses say the brothers had been heckled by other patrons, leading to an altercation which led to Brian being placed in handcuffs at one point, while Zach was arrested in connection with disorderly conduct.
