KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — The face of the Kansas City Chiefs is staying the same for a while.
The Chiefs added two years to Patrick Mahomes’ current contract, locking him in through the 2033 season with the total value of the contract now being $504.75 million from 2026-33.
The new money on the deal is worth $239.05 million. All $504.75 million is guaranteed.
“Over the last decade, Patrick has become one of the most iconic, beloved sports figures of all time… He has helped lead our franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships, he has been instrumental in shaping the Chiefs brand and putting Kansas City on the world stage, and on top of it all he has been an outstanding role model in the community. Patrick is a generational talent and an elite human being, and I’m so excited he will continue to lead our team into the future,” Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt said.
Mahomes’ new deal makes also makes it the first NFL deal valued over a half billion dollars, according to reports. Starting in 2027, he will make $64 million per year, which will also be an NFL record for annual average salary.
In 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $477 million contract, with a chance of totaling $503 million through bonuses. At the time, it was the largest contract in professional sports history.
Since then, the Chiefs have restructured Mahomes’ contract three times to help create a more team friendly deal.
During his time in KC, he’s obbtained two MVPs, three Super Bowl championships, three Super Bowl MVPs and five Super Bowl appearances.
Mahomes is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL and LCL he suffered last season as the Chiefs go through mandatory minicamp. He is pushing to play in Week 1 of the 2026 against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
