Following the release of her sixth studio album, Brat, Grammy-nominated and Billboard Music Award-winning pop superstar Charli xcx has signed on to star opposite Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in I Want Your Sex, Black Bear’s forthcoming thriller from director Gregg Araki.
The provocative film, exploring desire, domination, and fantasy, will mark Charli’s second live-action role on the heels of Faces of Death, Daniel Goldhaber’s forthcoming remake of the cult classic for Legendary Entertainment, which also stars Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah and Barbie Ferreira. Details as to her role are under wraps.
Written by Karley Sciortino and Araki, I Want Your Sex asks the question, how far is too far? When fresh-faced Elliot (Hoffman) lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde), his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.
Set to enter production in Los Angeles in October, the film will be produced by Seth Caplan, Araki, Sciortino, and Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler. John Friedberg, Joanne Roberts Wiles, and Courtney L. Cunniff will exec produce for Black Bear, which will also fully finance the picture and represent international rights, with CAA Media Finance handling U.S. rights. Arlie Day and Mike Page are associate producing and casting the picture.
Repopularizing the word ‘brat’ with her new album, to the extent that it’s all over the internet, Charli xcx’s previous studio albums include Crash, How I’m Feeling Now, Charli, Sucker, True Romance and 14. A highly influential figure in pop culture, she’s currently co-executive producing the score for David Lowery’s forthcoming A24 film Mother Mary with Jack Antonoff and producing the original music for Benito Skinner’s series Overcompensating on Prime Video, while also serving as executive producer on the series. Last year contributing the song “Speed Drive” to Barbie‘s soundtrack, the British artist has also contributed to the soundtracks of the films The Fault in Our Stars and Bodies Bodies Bodies.
Charli is represented by CAA, Good World and Project Gold.
