Many assumed that Carrie Coon would have one of the more successful careers after starring on season three of The White Lotus last year but that hasn’t been the case.
The 44-year-old actress – who has previously clarified open marriage rumors – candidly talked about her career turmoil as she has not been offered any big movie roles since her role on the highly-popular HBO series.
Coon – who also stars on another HBO series called The Gilded Age – was asked about becoming more known after starring on the anthology series as she gave a surprisingly honest answer.
The actress said during a The Hollywood Reporter roundtable with Sarah Pidgeon, Claire Danes, Kerry Washington, Rhea Seehorn and Chase Infiniti: ‘That part, the public discourse about you and your life, has always felt so far from me. Don’t get me wrong, I read reviews. I’ll haunt Reddit.
‘I want to know how the work is landing in the world. It’s important to take in the good and the bad because then you know that it’s all subjective and actually has nothing to do with you.’
She went on to say that despite the major role, neither her career nor her fame has changed much.

In The White Lotus season three, Coon portrayed Laurie Duffy who is a corporate lawyer and recent divorcee from New York City
Coon said: ‘So, the slow and steady rise of Carrie Coon has happened entirely outside of my life — even now after The White Lotus. I was at a restaurant last night in Newport, and this sweet young thing who was serving me said, “Do you play guitar?” I’m still moving through the world with people vaguely kind of maybe thinking they know me from their high school.
‘It’s great, and I don’t want to change that. As far as what The White Lotus does for careers, there were a lot of think pieces written about the show and the women. Maybe people started watching The Gilded Age. I haven’t seen the material results of that yet.’
The blonde beauty went on to say that she is at the top of the B-list when it comes to fame and she has had a jump but still has to work hard to get big feature film roles.
Coon said: ‘Here’s the thing: I still have to fight. I’m going to have to fight for big movies. What am I getting? I’m getting unfinanced indie scripts. That’s what I’m getting. And it’s probable that, if The Gilded Age were to go away, I would get another television job.
‘For me, I haven’t leveled up in the way that you think of when you think of [to Infiniti] what you’re going through or [to Pidgeon] what you’re about to go through.’

She is on the trip with two longtime pals Kate Bohr (Leslie Bibb) and Jaclyn Lemon (Michelle Monaghan) as the dynamics of their friendship are investigated on an eventful girls’ trip to Thailand.
Meanwhile on The Gilded Age, Coon stars in the main role as Bertha Russell, who is the matriarch of the family in the period drama which takes place during the boom years of the 1800s in New York City.

Last year Coon was forced to shut down speculation that she is in an open marriage with husband Tracy Letts after candidly revealing that they like to check out and appreciate other people.
The Copley, Ohio native had shared insight into her marriage with the 60-year-old playwright during an appearance on the ‘WTF with Marc Maron’ podcast earlier this week.
During the podcast appearance, Carrie described herself and her husband as ‘not jealous people’.
She said: ‘That’s the nice thing about a marriage where everything’s on the table; you talk about everything.
‘We don’t have any of those hang-ups. So, we never wanna be, like, the police, you know?
‘So, it’s nice to be in a relationship where we can always talk about, like, “Who are you attracted to on set?” It’s so fun. I love it.’
The Gilded Age star said that her playwright husband is ‘the kind of person who sees everybody on the street. And every woman.’

‘We love talking about it. It’s fun. It’s interesting to know what your partner’s into. It’s titillating.’
Carrie later clarified her comments in a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, after igniting rumors that she and Tracy might be in an open marriage.
‘Settle down, internet! I said “open minded” not “open,”‘ she posted on the social media site on Tuesday.
Carrie and Tracy have been married since 2013. Together, they share two children – son Haskell, who was born in 2018, and a daughter, who was born in 2021.
