The 43-year-old Devil Wears Prada 2 actress and 36-year-old Splitsville star stunned as they lip-locked in the nearly two-minute trailer, released by Amazon MGM Studios on Monday.
At one point in the snippet, Johnson is mouth-to-mouth with Josh Hartnett before Hathaway takes his place, with the shock kiss culminating in a bloody bite.
Headed to theaters October 2, the Colleen Hoover novel was adapted for the screen by Nick Antosca and directed by Michael Showalter.
Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, a down-on-her-luck writer who gets an unexpected lifeline with a dream offer.
Verity Crawford (Hathaway) is a successful thriller writer, but after a mysterious accident leaves her debilitated, her husband Jeremy (Hartnett) enlists Lowen to ghostwrite her final books.

Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, a down-on-her-luck writer who gets an unexpected lifeline with a dream offer
Once Lowen begins work at the couple’s opulent estate, she discovers an unfinished manuscript that threatens to reveal dark secrets about Verity and her husband’s pasts.
The young writer is forced to continue her work for Jeremy while trying to determine if the writings are merely fiction, or a disturbing warning from a dangerous woman.
Verity was self-published by Hoover in 2018 and later bought by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, after it had become a sensation among readers.
The movie also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.
Hathaway’s casting was initially announced in November 2024, shortly after Hoover’s movie adaptation of her book It Ends With Us was released.
The author, known for writing romance and young adult fiction, has previously been criticized for her writing style and alleged repeated use of plot cliches.
When Hathaway signed on to the film, fans on X expressed disappointment.
‘Anne Hathaway, you are Queen of Genovia. You do not need to stoop to these levels,’ wrote one fan while referencing her 2001 The Princess Diaries movie.
Someone else said, ‘Not even Anne Hathaway will convince me to watch anything with Colleen f***ing Hoover as the blueprint.’

Verity, which is described as a ‘psychosexual thriller,’ was self-published by Hoover in 2018
But following the release of the trailer on Monday, many viewers shared their excitement for the forthcoming project.
On YouTube, one fan declared Hathaway the ‘movie queen of 2026,’ listing her multiple feature films.
‘With Mother Mary, Devil Wears Prada 2, Odyssey, End of Oak Street and now Verity, Anne Hathaway is the Movie Queen of 2026!!!!!!’ the person wrote.
Someone else predicted, ‘Anne Hathaway & Josh Hartnett will be incredible in Verity.’
