As Andrew Garfield portrays the ultimate folk hero in The Uprising, he hopes it serves as a warning for the kings of our time.

The 2x Oscar nominee, whose character Ploughman is inspired by the legend of Robin Hood in Paul Greengrass-helmed film, noted that billionaires should be “scared shitless” by the movie that premieres Sept. 10 in the United States.

“Well first, I hope they come and see it, for first thing,” said Garfield of his hope for audiences at a recent screening. “But secondly, I hope it’s galvanizing. I hope there’s some awakening that people feel, that they feel that their own, that we all feel like our own struggles are being reflected in the struggles of these characters from a distant time and place, and that it could be directive. And I hope that if any billionaires watch it, they’re scared shitless.”

Later in the Q&A, the moderator quoted one line in the movie, “There will be no peace until we are healed.” Greengrass considers that phrase “true of today as it is 600 years ago, for sure.”

Garfield added, “I’m going to include the billionaires in that as well, because they’re the ones that might be the most soul sick. They’re the ones that might need the healing the most in a way.”

Written and directed by Greengrass, The Uprising is a retelling of the true events that inspired the legend of Robin Hood, starring Garfield as a farmer in 1831 England, who leads a rebellion against King Richard II (Woody Norman) over a brutal tax, in the wake of a devastating plague.
