Featuring a lineup of shows that may be the strongest in the history of Deadline’s Contenders Television events, this year’s two-day must-attend gathering of this season’s hottest awards prospects is now underway live at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles.
This year’s collection of panels featuring 29 shows truly indicates the wide-open nature of the awards races, with returnees joined by a bevy of acclaimed new shows competing for the first time. That makes this collection especially exciting and also valuable for the Television Academy and key guild voters in attendance, making Contenders TV a kind of one-stop shopping opportunity to hear from creators and stars over the course of the weekend.
Yes, there are familiar titles showcased including NBC’s Emmy record holder Saturday Night Live, ABC’s Abbott Elementary and a returning old favorite back in action with Scrubs. Past major Emmy winners like Baby Reindeer‘s Richard Gadd with a stirring new HBO Max limited series Half Man; David E. Kelley with a new show, Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, collaborating for the first time with his wife Michelle Pfeiffer; Breaking Bad‘s Vince Gilligan now with another hit, Apple TV’s Pluribus, starring Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn: and Mare of Easttown creator Brad Inglesby back with the heavily-praised HBO Max series Task. The return of Prime Video’s The Night Manager with its star Tom Hiddleston and new cast is another highlight worthy of a deep dive.
Meanwhile, Hulu’s The Testaments has a lot in store for fans of past Emmy winner The Handmaid’s Tale. The streamer’s second season of Paradise brings Emmy-winner Sterling K. Brown back for an even more intense set of events this season. And Paramount+ will represent with the stars from its hit Taylor Sheridan series Landman.
Prime Video’s breakout hit Jury Duty has found a way to come back with a new edition out of the courtroom, set this time at a company retreat where one unsuspecting new employee is about to have an experience he will never forget. The Amazon streamer’s Contenders lineup brings us that one, as well as all the info and star power making up the fifth and final season of The Boys.
Reality TV will also be getting a showcase with Peacock’s Love Island: USA and Fox’s Fear Factor: House of Fear, just to add a little spice to the weekend’s offerings.
The are joined by a who’s-who of this year’s buzziest shows across the two days, including AMC/AMC+’s The Audacity; Apple TV’s Shrinking; CBS’ Elsbeth; Disney+’s Wonder Man; HBO Max’s Industry; Hulu’s Chad Powers and The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox; Peacock’s Ted; Prime Video’s Young Sherlock, Bait, Fallout and Spider-Noir; and Warner Bros. Television’s Running Point and IT: Welcome to Derry.
With such an A-list group of shows, you can bet the panelists are A-list as well. Those scheduled to take part in discussions across the weekend include Glen Powell, Chase Infiniti, Quinta Brunson, Tom Hiddleston, Rhea Seehorn, Kit Harington, Nick Offerman, Marcello Hernandez and Ashley Padilla, Riz Ahmed, Billy Bob Thornton, Andy Garcia, Marisa Abela, Sam Elliott, Alanna Ubach, Michael Urie, Johnny Knoxville, Carrie Preston, Tom Pelphrey, Richard Gadd, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Kyle MacLachlan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Shailene Woodley, Ann Dowd, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Grace Van Patten, Mindy Kaling, Ariana Madix, Billy Magnussen, Myha’la and Diego Calvo, among many more.
