A SPANISH bodybuilder who was once Mister Universe is reportedly fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Police and paramedics raced to the Majorcan home of Luis Antonio Vidal Butler yesterday evening just after 7pm.
Emergency medical responders spent around 90 minutes reviving the 57-year-old at the property in Cala Major, Palma.
He was stabilised at the scene before paramedics discovered he had gone into cardiac arrest.
Local reports said his partner had dialled 999 after he began to feel tightness in his chest and then started coughing before collapsing.
Luis has been admitted to an intensive care unit at Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital where he remains in “critical” condition, Majorcan press say.
The famous bodybuilder, who has more than 25,000 followers on Instagram, fell ill just hours after publishing footage of a gym workout.
The Madrid-born strongman, son of legendary Spanish sports journalist Miguel Vidal Perello, won prestigious European and world competitions as a bodybuilder, becoming Mister Universe at the height of his career.
He became a content creator in recent years, dealing with issues such as fitness and healthy lifestyles as well as politics and set up his own YouTube channel.
He called himself PitbullButler online.
A Madrid-based friend said earlier this month: “For years I saw him as a true legend of Spanish bodybuilding.
“We crossed paths at some events, but from very different sides: me as a spectator and him as a competitor on stage.”
He described Vidal’s physique as “breathtaking” and “sculpted by the Greek gods”.
Adding: “I’m talking about Luis Vidal, world champion, European champion, and Mr. Universe, one of the most respected names in bodybuilding in Spain and worldwide.
“I’ve always been passionate about that world from the outside. And life, once again, proves that it takes many turns.
“Years later, I had the pleasure of interviewing him and over time the relationship grew to the point where today I can say something that makes me especially happy: besides being a legend of the sport, today he is also a colleague in the digital sector and a friend in personal life.
“From seeing him in the audience… to even sharing projects and conversations. I send him very good vibes and the best wishes for success for his project @eclecticospodcast, which undoubtedly has it and will have it.
“Life sometimes connects stories that once seemed very far apart.
“A man with his own thoughts, one of the few people left, with a motto burned into him: “Tenacious like a Pitbull.”
Majorca-based Ivonne Moll Siles reacted to news of his admission to hospital by writing on social media: “Get better soon my friend. You are a great person.”
Renna Chaves added: “Sending you a lot of strength. I know God will help you get out of this.”
