While you may think quakes are a western US problem, some of the largest temblors in US history have happened in the East.

It has been an active stretch of seismic activity for the Pacific Ring of Fire over the last few hours.

Beginning Friday night, several earthquakes fired off along the active region from California to Indonesia, all ranging in magnitudes from 3.5 and higher.

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake started things off last night off the coast of Northern California. At approximately 7:41 p.m. local time, the quake struck about 52 miles west of Petrolia. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that shaking was felt in areas such as Eureka and Fort Bragg.

Glass Beach is a beach adjacent to MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, California, named from a time when it was abundant with sea glass created from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline near the northern part of the town. It is illegal to collect glass at this state park.

About 2 hours later, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck about 105 miles east-southeast of Kurilsk, Russia.

About an hour after that and over 4,000 miles east, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon. The epicenter was recorded to be about 300 miles west-southwest of Salem, Oregon and started around 10:46 p.m. local time.

Back across the Pacific, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck about 18 miles away from Pilar, Philippines around 2:32 p.m. local time Saturday evening. Reports of shaking came from Dapa and Purok, around 42 miles away from the epicenter.

About 90 minutes later, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake rattled Labuha, Indonesia. The epicenter of this was about 40 miles west of the city.

Shortly after, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the small Asian country of Timor-Leste. The country is home to just over 1 million people, with the highest concentration living in the capital of Dili, which is about 112 miles west of the epicenter.

Nearly 2 hours later and back across the Pacific Ocean a powerful magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck about 15 miles west-southwest of Sipí, Colombia. Reports of shaking were felt around 118 miles away near the area of Cali, Colombia.
