FOX Weather’s Robert Ray visits Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park which is known for its unique rock formations called hoodoos, expansive hiking trails and breathtaking views of the natural landscape as part of our week-long celebration of National Parks Week.

Eleven people in four different hiking groups visiting Bryce Canyon National Park on Monday were rescued after flash flooding swept through the park.
The hikers were rescued after heavy rain caused flash flooding along several of the national park’s popular trails, leaving them trapped, according to FOX 13 Salt Lake City.

None of the hikers were swept away by the rushing waters, but conditions wouldn’t allow them to continue.

Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, search and rescue, Bryce Canyon National Park rangers and a few other agencies responded to the incident.
According to FOX 13 Salt Lake City, two of the hikers were hospitalized and treated for showing signs of hypothermia and the other nine hikers were uninjured.

Several popular trails within the national park remain closed until further notice after the incident, including: Wall Street, the Bryce Connector Trail to Peekaboo Loop, Peekaboo Loop and the Tropic Trail, Bryce Canyon National Park reported.

The flash flooding comes amid peak monsoon season for Bryce Canyon, which occurs during August and September.
“Rapid weather shifts — from clear mornings to intense afternoon thunderstorms — can reshape the landscape and introduce serious hazards, including flash floods, debris-laden waterfalls, trail washouts and periodic rockfall,” Bryce Canyon National Park said in a recent news release. “The NPS urges all visitors to remain informed, monitor weather forecasts and be prepared for sudden changes.”
