EXCLUSIVE: Hit Israeli drama series Your Honor is having an international resurgence.
Your Honor, which recently sold to China and was previously remade in the States starring Bryan Cranston, is now traveling to Ukraine via a remake from local entertainment giant 1+1 Media.
The Ukrainian version will be made into a weighty, 16-episode series, with creative details and casting being ironed out.
Titled Kvodo, the legal thriller originated in Israel but is familiar to American audiences due to the popular Showtime adaptation starring Cranston, which ran for two seasons. It tells the story of a respected senior judge whose son is involved in a hit-and-run accident, leading to difficult choices, moral dilemmas and terrible consequences as he attempts to keep the crime a secret. Outside the U.S., Your Honor has been adapted in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, India and Russia. The Chinese version is being developed by William Lau and his Ladder Ideas Limited.
1+1 CEO Olga Zakharova said: “For 1+1 Ukraine, it is important not only to keep up with the times but also to set the tone in the development of Ukrainian series production. Therefore, we are not afraid to experiment and look for new formats. The adaptation of Your Honor is an important step in this process.”
Your Honor is one of the best-selling scripted formats of recent years and has been in the official selection at numerous festivals. The sale comes several weeks after the three-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and resolving the war continues to dominate global headlines. We recently dove deep into how the nation’s TV industry is recovering from disaster.
Your Honor was created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach and produced by yes TV and Koda Communications. Yes Studios represents the original drama and the format worldwide.
