An investigation is underway in Pasadena after a man in a crashed vehicle was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound Wednesday evening.
Details are extremely limited, and it is unclear how the fatal shooting unfolded, though reports of the incident came in at around 6 p.m.
Aerial footage from Sky5 over the scene in the 700 block of Rio Grande Street, near El Molino Avenue, showed the car on the sidewalk against a wall and the street closed to any traffic while officers with the Pasadena Police Department investigated.
Medical personnel with the fire department responded to the location and declared the victim deceased.
One witness to the crash said he was driving on the street when he saw the man’s vehicle traveling at a high-speed before it ran into what appears to be a resident’s front yard retaining wall.
The witness said he noticed the wheels on the vehicle continued to spin even after the collision and that both he and a nearby resident approached the car and saw the victim slumped inside over with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
When investigators arrived, the witness, who told KTLA that he believed the victim to be young, somewhere between 18 and19 years old, related to authorities what he’d seen.
KTLA has reached out to Pasadena police for confirmation on the preliminary details, and is awaiting a response.
