(KTLA) – A 23-year-old man in San Bernardino County is accused of killing his wife, authorities announced Monday.
In a news release, officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that on Jan. 5 at approximately 1:35 a.m., the suspect, identified as Twentynine Palms resident Carlos Zamudio, brought his 21-year-old wife, Savannah Encke, to the Hi Desert Medical Center emergency room in Joshua Tree.
The 21-year-old woman, according to the sheriff’s department, was suffering from severe injuries, while responding deputies from the sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station also noted that Zamudio had injuries to his face.
Despite life-saving measures, Encke was pronounced dead at the hospital, prompting investigators with the sheriff’s department’s specialized investigation division to assume the case.
“During the investigation, it was determined Zamudio was responsible for the injuries leading to Encke’s death,” the release noted.
No information was provided on a potential motive for the violence, nor how the fatal encounter unfolded.
The 23-year-old was taken into custody and booked at the Morongo Jail for murder.
Anyone with any information about this investigation is urged to contact Detective Owenn Domon, with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Specialized Investigation Division at 909-890-4904.
