A 49-year-old woman was arrested for murdering another woman she had an “ongoing dispute” with after a low-speed pursuit, according to police in Riverside.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday at Villegas Park, located in the 3000 block of Esperanza Avenue in Riverside’s Casa Blanca neighborhood, officials said in a media release.
When officers arrived at the park, they found a 51-year-old woman with a gunshot wound; despite lifesaving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
Police later identified her as Tuesday Perez of Riverside.
An investigation into the fatal shooting was immediately launched by the department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit and Forensics Unit with assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department which led to the identification of a female murder suspect.
“Utilizing the air support unit from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department…the suspect was located driving in Moreno Valley,” the Riverside Police Department media release stated. “A low-speed pursuit ensued, but deputies successfully stopped the vehicle and safely took the suspect into custody near Ramona Expressway and Perris Boulevard.”
The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Angela Ann Garcia, also of Riverside.
Preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that Garcia had been involved in an ongoing dispute with Perez and shot her during an altercation.
Garcia, who was injured during the altercation, was taken to a hospital before being booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center, police said.
Inmate search records indicate Garcia was charged with murder with malice and being a felon in possession of a firearm. She is being held without bail.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
