An Upland woman was arrested for arson Thursday after she tried to start a brush fire in Rancho Cucamonga, authorities said.
The fire was sparked at about 12:20 p.m. in an open field near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Lion Street, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but several witnesses reported that they’d seen an adult woman fleeing on foot as the fire started, and that woman was tracked to a local business.
That woman, 59-year-old Rhonda Ramos, was found in front of a nearby business and “was determined to be the subject fleeing from the burning field and matched the description provided by witnesses,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
She was arrested for arson and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
Jail records show her bail was set at $30,000, and she’s due to appear in Rancho Superior Court Monday morning.
