A MAN has been arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation after a woman was raped in a town centre park in the early hours.
The woman was found in a “distressed” state by members of the public in a park in Taunton, Somerset, on Saturday.
She is currently being supported by specialist officers as a police investigation into the horror incident continues.
Officers said a man has now been arrested from an address in the town after an appeal to the public for information.
He was handcuffed yesterday evening and remains in police custody at this time.
The public has been asked to avoid speculating on the case as the force pursues a prosecution.
Detective Sergeant Wendy Fellowes said: “We’re very grateful to everyone who has contacted us with information or shared the appeal.
“Although an arrest has now been made, our investigation is really just beginning.”
“It’s important now that people don’t post speculation online which could affect any future prosecution.”
The public is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police if they have any information that could assist the ongoing probe into the horror attack.
