A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in a man’s car in a terrifying late night attack.
The victim, in her 30s, had been in Bognor Regis town centre on Thursday evening when she got into a car near a Tesco Express on Station Road.
Cops say the vehicle – believed to be silver or grey – later pulled into a layby bus stop on the A259 near the Marsh Lane junction in Merston.
The driver then sexually assaulted the woman sometime between 11.30pm on Thursday and 1am on Friday.
They describe the suspect as a man in his 30s or 40s, of South Asian ethnicity, with short, dark, curly hair.
Police added that the victim managed to flee the car and run to safety before raising the alarm.
Cops are now urgently appealing for witnesses who were in the Station Road area near Tesco at the time.
They ask for anyone who may have seen the car as it left Bognor Regis to get in touch.
Chief Inspector Adam McCaig, Arun and Chichester district commander, said police were stepping up patrols to reassure residents as the hunt for the attacker continues.
He said: “We continue to work closely with our partners as the investigation progresses and will have officers conducting additional patrols across the area over the weekend to provide reassurance.”
Anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage from the area is urged to contact police immediately.
