Police are searching for a suspect who left a woman with gunshots to the head and chest in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights neighborhood Wednesday, officials confirmed to KTLA.

Details are limited and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances around the victim’s death, but officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to an area near the intersection of South Grande Vista Avenue and 8th Street at around 3:15 a.m. on reports of the shooting.

At the scene, officers found the woman still inside her vehicle. According to police, the victim was not conscious or breathing.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital.

The victim’s condition was not immediately available, police said.

Footage from the scene shows a heavy police presence in the neighborhood where the intersection was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.

From a distance, it appeared that the airbag in the victim’s steering wheel deployed, possibly when her vehicle came to a stop on or near the street curb.

So far, police have not released a suspect description, but did say the shooter fled the scene in a black Ford Mustang.

Anyone with any information about the investigation is urged to contact detectives at LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division at 323-342-4143. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or leave tips online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
