One woman and three girls, one as young as 3 years old, were hospitalized Monday night after their car went over the side of a cliff in Los Angeles.

The L.A. City Fire Department said it was around 9:11 p.m. when the crash was reported in Sylmar.

Details are limited, and LAFD’s initial report said it was “under unknown circumstances” that the car veered from the roadway and plummetted about 120 feet down the embankment.

Crews responded to the call in the 12000 block of North Harding Street in between El Cariso Golf Course and Lopez Canyon Sylmar Hiking Trail.

Witnesses said that all four of the occupants were able to get out of the car on their own before being helped and assessed by paramedics.

LAFD said that the patients, one 44-year-old woman and three girls aged 12, 7 and 3, were all transported in fair condition with minor injuries.

Police and other crews stayed on the scene to coordinate recovering the car from where it came to rest down the embankment.

No other injuries were reported, and officials did not immediately provide any further information about the crash.
