(NewsNation) — Voters behind the “Make America Healthy Again” movement are proving to be political wild cards as the race to the 2026 midterms ramps up.
While Republicans hope to keep MAHA voters in the GOP column at the ballot box, leaders of the movement say their support is not automatic or necessarily tied to President Trump or Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
A Kaiser Family Foundation and Washington Post survey published in October found four in 10 parents support the MAHA movement. That includes a third of independents and nearly one in six democrats. The same survey found broad, bipartisan support for tougher rules on chemical additives and ultra-processed foods, even as vaccines and federal health policy remain deeply divisive.
Zen Honeycutt, founder of “Moms Across America,” tells NewsNation that MAHA supporters want action, not just talk. She said their biggest frustration is with the Environmental Protection Agency and what they see as a failure to crack down on agricultural chemicals such as pesticides.
“This is a very serious issue for the Republican party,” Honeycutt said. “If they do not support pesticide reform, such as promised, as promised by Trump, then I believe that they’re going to see major implications in the midterm elections.”
With the midterms approaching, MAHA leaders say they’re watching both parties closely. With independent and suburban parents making up a key part of MAHA’s base, their support could matter in some very tight races.
