WASHINGTON, DC (WOWK) – West Virginia now has a new Senator representing the state on Capitol Hill. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) was officially sworn in Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
Justice is one of 52 Republican Senators in the 119th Congress, replacing former Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), who did not run for re-election. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) joined him for the big transition.
The now-former governor’s swearing-in ceremony was originally supposed to happen on Jan. 3, but he delayed his own ceremony until after Patrick Morrisey was sworn in as West Virginia’s new governor.
Had Justice not delayed heading to the Senate, West Virginia would have had four governors in under two weeks as the former West Virginia Senate President would have taken over the role until Jan. 8, when the new WV Senate President Randy Smith would have taken over until Morrisey’s Jan. 13 inauguration.
