CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — West Virginia Governor Jim Justice is in the process of transitioning to U.S. Senator Jim Justice. He’s already preparing his agenda for the nation’s capital. In fact, the senator-elect spent much of the day in Washington, D.C., Tuesday for orientation and Senate planning meetings.
Now that Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) has delivered his farewell speech to that chamber, it’s time for the next agenda.
Justice says his shopping list in Washington will be key items for West Virginia. He plans to focus heavily on U.S. border security with all the deadly fentanyl that crosses in from Mexico and eventually winds up in Appalachia. And his top priority is creating a clear U.S. energy policy, that will focus on fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and the region’s still plentiful supply of coal.
“If we solve the energy dilemma, it solves inflation. If we solve the energy dilemma, it drives so much business to this country, that’s all over the world because businesses want to come to the energy,” said Justice.
Senator-elect Justice says he will also fight for the funding to complete the state’s top two highway projects – Corridor H and the King Coal Highway.
Also Wednesday, Governor Justice praised and thanked Senator Manchin for his 14 years of service to West Virginia in the nation’s capital.
