A regional jet and helicopter collided near Reagan National Airport shortly before 9 p.m. local time on Wednesday evening.
The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) said that a PSA Airlines regional jet, operated for American Airlines, collided in midair with a military helicopter while approaching the airport in Northern Virginia.
The regional flight, per the FAA, departed from Wichita, Kansas. Local law enforcement agencies are responding to the crash and conducting a search and rescue operation in the Potomac River.
American Airlines, in a statement, said it was aware of reports that “American Eagle flight 5342, operated by PSA, with service from Wichita (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA), has been involved in an incident” and would provide information as it becomes available.
