President Trump is scheduled to meet with the Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin at the White House on Wednesday.
Ahead of his visit to Washington, Martin stressed the important relationship between the U.S. and Ireland at SXSW in Austin, highlighting Irish business in the U.S.
The meeting also comes after the European Union (EU) retaliated against U.S. tariffs on Wednesday, hitting the country with new duties amid Trump’s 25 percent increase on steel and aluminum goods.
Martin is slated to join Trump on Capitol Hill for a lunch with lawmakers as well. The bilateral meeting, which is a week before St. Patrick’s Day, will conclude with a 5 p.m. reception at the White House.
Martin is expected to arrive at the White House at 10:45 a.m. EDT.
